Hi Everyone! A big welcome to all the new readers!

Remember the Tropical Storms quilt I made earlier this year?  Well, it seems I was predicting what was to come this Fall.

An overview from space.

Saturday:

Right now the wind is howling and the rain has  been coming down in sheets for hours.  Hurricane Matthew is making its presence felt here in NC.  We lost power this morning, and had to dig out the flashlights.  A nearby transformer went off in a big bang.  Fortunately, we are safe.  But, alas there was no sewing today!

Monday:

Still no power. I’m having to bring ice and hot water to my house for my sister and mom.  Duke Energy is saying power might not be restored until Sunday!  So frustrating, since just down the road in the next town over, there is power. Meanwhile, I am sitting at a nearby Starbucks charging my devices and writing this post.

Well, life goes on anyway. So today I worked on packing supplies and kits for Houston.  Most of it I can send ahead, but my quilts for showing will be coming in a large suitcase on the plane with me.

So what will I be teaching?  Glad you asked!  There are still a few spots open in some of my classes.

Colorplay for Quilters– a light hearted romp into the world of color, including a slide show that teaches all the  major color schemes.  From there, we will make a grey scale and a monochromatic color scale with fabric to learn about value.  In the afternoon, we flex our composition and color muscles by creating a small fused art quilt.

Posh, Pet Portraits- a lesson in translating a favorite pet portrait into fabric by tracing and creating a pattern, and fusing fabrics.  A pattern of my Huey quilt will be included in case you want to make a small one of my furry friend.

Friday Sampler- I will be demo-ing my needle felting and quilting techniques on a BERNINA 770 QE machine.

Mini Mods- this is a half day exploration of geometric abstraction and composition, where we will fuse a small art quilt in the clean, “modern” style.  This is a great way to delve into the design elements and learn composition basics.

Fancy Needle Felted Tulips- a full day to learn how to hand needle felt a small tulip design by embellishing it with beautiful, luscious wool roving, and then with machine free motion quilting.  Kits supplied.

I hope you can come and study with me!
