Hawaiian Miniatures

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the new readers!

When I was a kid growing up in Boston, I remember going to the MFA and seeing the Persian miniature collection. I was so enthralled with the tiny details, the brilliant jeweled colors and the stories they told. Here is an example of one:

So that memory inspired me to create some miniatures of my own.

I like to use little 6″ x 6″ x 1″ canvases to mount small treasures to sell at parties and to give as gifts.  They have been very popular.  I thought I would use some of my many photos of Hawaii as inspiration. So I picked some of my favorite seascapes and printed them out small. I picked these 3:

Aren’t they glorious? Anyway, they make me swoon, so I knew it was a good choice.

So with  no pattern, I just free cut shapes from my pre-fused scraps and fused them down to a stiff piece of Timtex.  Timtex is that stuff that is used in baseball caps. You can find it at any craft store.

Here they are laid out before stitching:

Now to add the free motion stitching:

For the clouds I used some locks of some animal from my wool roving collection. I used my round clear plastic foot to stitch over them. The next step is to paint around the edges of the canvases with a deep sea blue and hot glue the pieces to the tops of the canvas. Here they are all together- I love  them and plan to make lots more!

If you would like a set of Hawaiian Miniatures just let me know and I’ll make them for you. They are $60 each and $175 for the set of 3. You can email me at roxane@roxanelessa.com if you would like your own set or a set to give.

Happy stitching!
