The 5 Attributes of Being an Artist

Hi Everyone! A big welcome to all the new readers!

What are the 5 attributes of being an artist? I’m sure there may be more, but when I look deeply at myself, I see these 5…see if you can relate to any of them.

1. Passion
You have an unexplainable passion to express yourself making by making art. You’re not sure where it comes from, but you know you must make art. When you don’t, you’re miserable, crabby and maybe clinically depressed.

2. Beauty
You crave beauty. You need it like water and air. It draws you in and you MUST have it in your surroundings. You are awed by the power and magic beauty has to heal and uplift us all.

3. Clarity
Clear vision about what you want to bring forth and make. Clarity about what is unecessary in your work. Uncluttered environment and emotional space to work in.

4. Excellence
Excellence in training and execution. Excellence in your materials, tools and craftsmanship. And excellence in your teachers and coaches.

5. Self-worth
This one is important. Unless you value yourself enough to put your time and art first, everyone else’s agenda takes over. This is not about “I don’t have enough time”. This is about being clear that your self expression MATTERS and must be nurtured and loved- just like a dearly loved family member. And finally, this is about investing in yourself, your art, and your career.

The last one, self-worth is also related to courage.  It takes courage to put yourself out to the world and invite all the eyes looking at you and your work.  Much easier to hide in the shadows.  It takes a certain amount of self-worth and courage to say to everyone, I have a unique point of view, and I’m laying it all out for anyone to see.

But, here’s the cool part.

When you are ready to step into that passion, beauty, clarity, excellence, and self worth, you will feel an immense freedom.  And people who like what you stand for will flock to you, and those that don’t will go away, muttering and complaining.

But the main thing is you will have expressed your truest self.  A very satisfying thing indeed!

With all that in mind, I have extended my private coaching program.  I believe the transformation my students are looking for must take place over a longer period of time to have a lasting impact.  If you are ready to invest in your self and your art please, I invite you to check out my…..
