After all the excitement of getting the blue ribbon for Wisteria Wonder, it’s back to work for me in the studio. I’m quilting the new Opal piece. Every time I look at these colors, I fall in love all over again.
And they really glow in the afternoon sun. Most pieces are hand dyed by me or other artists and fussy cut for that shape.
What I have been doing is free motion stitching around each shape with WonderFil InvisaFil 100 weight beige thread. This thread was given to me by WonderFil and I really like it for this sort of thing. It blends with whatever color it is next to. In the bobbin I have my Monopoly clear thread. Here is the quilting from the back:
This gorgeous backing was dyed by Sherol Lappola. I have several pieces of her fabric and I haven’t used it all up yet!
Here is a little video I shot whilst working:
Now my big question is, what other quilting should I put in? There are some larger areas that will need some quilting. I want to keep things simple so maybe some added echo quilting lines in matching colors in the larger, blanker areas? Although I kinda like it the way it looks now too. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?
