BEACH GEEK RETREAT
What a fun, relaxing time I had in Sandbridge, VA. at the amazing Beach Geek Retreat. We had wonderful meals, cooked by M.J.
We had informal classes with Laurie, the Artist Geek, on all kinds of ways to use an ipad or camera, plus a bunch of easy to use apps. What was the point? To get all the business and other stuff you need to do done faster and easier so you can spend more time creating art. She has done a lot of research to find tech tools to make our lives easier as artists. She is a wonderful photographer too, so she’s an artist and a geek! And the beach was gorgeous, I actually got some sun! There was the Back Bay nature preserve just down the road, where I took some pictures. I made some wonderful friends too- I would definitely do this again.
FREE MOTION QUILTING SAMPLE
So when I got back from the beach (unwillingly), I worked on the sample we will be doing in my new workshop, Rock Your Quilting. It’s this weekend and I’m still getting ready with the final details! I still have some space, so if you’d like to expand your expertise and practice your quilting, let me know. This was an idea I took from Machine Quilting Mag. from an article written by Jenny Bowker. It’s a great technique and easy to set up. Just find a square of a print you like, fuse it to some white fabric, layer with batting and backing, and free motion quilt. The idea is too use the print to inspire your motifs and complete the flower or whatever with your quilting. Then keep going until the whole piece is done, changing colors to add variety. Here’s mine:
Like I said, I will be in my studio teaching my amazing students this weekend. I’m working hard to make it really special. For those of you who wanted to do this, but couldn’t, I will most likely do it again in January 2013- so save your pennies. Or better yet-ask for it for Christmas!
