Deciding How to Quilt Your Art Quilt

Hi Everyone! A big welcome to all the new readers!

I get a lot of questions about how you decide how to quilt  your art quilts.  There are endless possibilities, so you can end up with analysis paralysis.  Or you may just be afraid to “ruin” your quilt top that you worked so hard on.

I really get that, which is why I made this video for you.  This is Part 1- Part 2 will be next week.

Now I realize this video is not perfect, and I should have taken the gloves off instead of playing with them, and looking like Minny Mouse for the whole video.  But aside from that, the information is good 🙂  I will be setting up the camera next to the machine as I work, for the next video I make.

Here’s a picture of some design previewing on plastic film.

A New Opportunity to Study with Me!

Dancing with Design-Composition for Quilters

I’m not sure if everyone got the memo last week, so at the risk of seeming like a pest, I’m letting you know about my  new online Home Study class.

There have been a lot of requests for a home study version of this class, so I’ve been working really hard to make that possible! This is the next best thing to working with me in person.

The cool thing about a home study version is that I can offer it to you for only $97!!

AND you will still be able to ask questions and get feedback from me and the other students too.

You can register right now and save your spot, then we will all begin on May 1.

The lessons will be available every week, one at a time, AND after the course is over, you will still have access to all the materials online.

So if you couldn’t join us for the first class, now is your chance.  Get all the lessons, practice, critiques and Q & A for only $97 with the Home Study version. Starts May 1st, just in time for Summer!

But I will be on vacation traveling!-

I know lots of people travel in the Summer, but as long as you have wifi, you can keep up with this class at your own pace. I will be along for the duration of the course, to answer your questions and help with critiques.  I’ve already opened up the first 2 modules so you can jump right in. After the course runs through to completion, the lessons will still be there for you to work through, even though my direct involvement will be done.

And I won’t have my sewing machine with me or my fabrics…

Fortunately, you can still do the activities with colored paper and a glue stick and scissors.  And then, you will have some great ideas to develop into fabric!

I hope you can join me in this exciting new class!

  1. Thanks for this insight into the process you use to select quilting to both enhance the design and solve problems. It is very helpful.

The tulips are lovely! The needle felting brings so much dimension and texture to the piece. The colors are so rich.

Your work is inspirational as always!

    1. You are so kind to comment, thanks Ann! I may create an online class teaching this technique- would that be of interest?
