Fun Color class and new piece finished!!!

Saturday was ColorPlay for Quilters at Thimble Pleasures, one of my favorite quilting stores.  I had 5 wonderful ladies who asked great questions and made lovely little art quilts. I introduced them to classic color schemes and some wonderful books, like:  The Quilter’s Color club, by Christine E. Barnes ( pg. 78 features one of my quilts).

Here are some results of our time together: Click on a picture for a larger view.

And now to announce the completion of Blue Desert!  I put the binding  on completely by machine.  Because I’m basically lazy, and hate a lot of hand sewing.  But I think it looks clean and professional.  In  my next post I will give a tute on how I did that, if you’d like to learn that trick. Also, I have used some bobbin work on the vegetation using heavy threads.  If you’d like to learn how to do that, take my ThreadUtopia class on Oct. 18 at Bernina World of Sewing.  I haven’t come up with a retail price yet- my least favorite part.  Anyway, here it is:

Blue Desert, fiber, 16" x 45, hand dyes and batik cotton, silk chiffon, fused, painted, machine quilted, 2011

And a close up:

  1. So much depth in this piece! Lovely.
And I never bind anything by hand, so I’m curious to see your tutorial. I’m always looking for any new tips.

  2. Thanks Kathy! I’m probably not doing anything you don’t already know, but I will say it involves fusible thread called Charlotte’s Web ;).
