Well, I did start the new piece finally! These days I seem to find little studio time, but it’s siren call is always there. I was inspired by my trip to Punta Cana, but I had better pictures in my Kauai files. The leaves of another plant keep grabbing my attention. I love the shapes and patterns created by these leaves. And by using my photo editor, I came up with an unusual color scheme that I really liked. No surprise to me, as I usually am attracted to greens and blues together.
But that was a complicated image, so I had to edit our some of the clutter, and focus on the shapes I saw.
After creating my line drawing, I blew up the drawing to create a real life size quilt- roughly 25″ x 35″. Diving into my hand dyes and batiks, I came up with this raw edge fused applique piece.
You can see some white lines that will be stitched in later with quilting.
Fast forward to some painting to add the details. I usually use my ProFab Textile paints with Golden GAC Textile medium.
Here you see some of the greens I mixed using just one shade of green some yellow and some white. My trusty deviled egg tray makes a perfect paint palette (bought it at JoAnn’s Fabrics).
