It’s Been Way Too Long!!

Has it really been May since I last posted? I know. We’ve all been a little preoccupied, and it’s been way too long. That last piece I was working on?

(opens in a new tab)
I finished and called it Grace Bay. Grace Bay was the beautiful beach my  honey and I went to back in January in the Turks and Caicos. The colors reminded me of the place, and I was nostalgic for a time when we could fly and vacation somewhere exotic.
The edges had to be faced with custom shaped facings and it was a pain, but I like the results.
What else? My ballet teaching continues on Zoom with a few in person classes. The in person classes are small and everyone wears a mask including me- yuck! It’s very hard to talk and move with a mask on, but the kids are so glad to be in the studio. In general, I am teaching dance at less than half of the time I was before.
Which leaves me with plenty of time to come up with other ways to create and make an income. Some of you know I have had a FB group called The Joyful Art Quilting Group for several years now. Well, during lockdown it really grew. We are almost up to 4,000 members now!  Well, I finally had the bright idea of creating a class on Zoom just for this group. I limited the enrollment to 10 people and we had 2 hour Zoom classes about a week apart for about 6 -7 weeks. It was such a hit that I had a second class, which I am wrapping up now. I even had a lady from Spain! The class was a guided experience to teach them to make their own art quilt based on a photo of their choice. The first and second groups now want a more advanced class, and I am opening up a third newbie class this week.  If you want more info, please consider joining the FB group by clicking HERE and request to be added to the group.  These classes are only for my group members and once you take the class, you are added to a private group page. Both groups are discussing and sharing on that page now. It’s a beautiful thing!
Here is some of their stellar work:
JoAnne Harris Hoffman

Janet Fox- still a work in progress

Arielle Bayaert- auditioning edge treatments

Kim Moline

Cecilia Mason

Some of these ladies had never used paint on fabric before or had very little experience with fused applique. I was blown away!  All I can say is they were much more courageous than I was when I first tried painting on fabric.  There were more of course, but some of them are still not done, I just chose a sampling.

I’m hoping you are all well and staying somewhat sane until this collective madness we are all in is past. Take care all, and I will write sooner than last time, because I am already on the next quilt….which I will show you then. 🙂

Oh, one more thing: I now know how to cut my boyfriend’s hair and the top of my own hair.   Skills I never thought I would learn…..

Please feel free to use this material for your own work, but do not reproduce it, thank you.

Oh and before I forget- I have a new Facebook Group called Joyful Art Quilting. You can head on over there to discuss your projects in more detail and see what others are up to.  It’s a fun, non-judgmental place to meet and share.  Here’s the link to go join the group:

If you want to take a class with me- CALL ME at 919-602-2260.   I can teach for a small group of your friends, like I did a while back for my friend Joyce Marks and her quilting buddies.  We had a blast and I tailored the classes to her group’s interests.

And you can always take an online class with me- see below!

Here’s what one guild VP had to say recently:

I’m usually Johnny on the Spot but missed the boat last week re these BIG THANKS.  Loved your presentation. Heard very positive and supportive remarks from the guests…thank you again for the well-defined and creative presentation.  Look forward to seeing you again.
