How to Find Time to Work in Your Studio

Hi Everyone! A big welcome to all the new readers!

How to Find Time to Work in Your Studio.  Time challenging you?  Can’t seem to find the time to get in your studio to make new stuff or finish up UFO’s?  Then read on for my best tips for a healthy studio practice…

Tip #1  Start with a good cleaning.  Take 20 mins. and clean up some piles of fabric.  Put away books and  magazines.  You’ll be amazed at what you find, and what you find may inspire you to get going again.

Tip #2  Hate cleaning?  OK, I get that.  Here’s another:  Find one, just one afternoon in your week that you have open.  Do it now.  Block it out and write in “STUDIO TIME”.  If you don’t have a whole afternoon/morning, find 1 hour.  If you don’t have 1 hour to yourself all week, you have bigger problems.

Tip #3  Set your watch/clock/timer for the time you will be in your studio.  Turn off your phone, and all digital devices that may distract you.  Don’t answer the door.  Treat this time as your sacred ME time.

Tip #4  Do this every week, set your studio/me time at the start of every week.  Do not cancel it, reschedule for a different time if you have to.

Tip #5  When life’s little emergencies (and big) pop up, ask yourself if it can wait.  If it can’t, then handle it and as soon as you can, get back to your regular practice with yourself.

Many of my Private Coaching students have done this practice, and are amazed at what a difference it makes in their art making.  Also this practice says to yourself, “I am at least as important as anyone else in my life”, because you are doing one of the things that makes you happy.  Women tend to put themselves last in all kinds of ways.  But you have a gift- you love to make things.  Don’t take that gift for granted, and give yourself permission to explore and create.

I hope that helps you get back in the studio.  And now, it’s time for me to get back in the studio, so that’s it for now!
