Hi Everyone! Happy Summer!
At long last I am back to tell you about Kauai. What an adventure! This wild and green island did not disappoint. Today,I looked through the over 600 photos I took, and put them into albums, like plants and trees, flowers, seascapes. There are very few photos of people. A few photos of roosters and chickens, which were noisily everywhere, running wild. It was a true artist’s feast for the eyes and I “stuffed” my eyeballs every chance I got. My sister and her boyfriend and roommate, Gerry, took me all over the island to the best spots, so I could get my fill. Many thanks to them and the trusty Sheldon, my sister’s little white car.
As I was organizing these photos, I was thinking, what kind of art quilts will come out of all this wonder and beauty? I want to do some representational landscapes and botanicals, of course. But I also want to do some multi layered works. Not sure exactly how, but I think it might include shapes or outlines of leaves superimposed on the ocean, and that sort of thing. Which would make them more abstract, concentrating on forms, lines and colors- oh the colors!!! I bought a little blue green dress because it was the exact color of the ocean I saw- my favorite!
I could go on and on. Some of my favorite memories:
Sunset at Polihole beach with incredible stars later
Swimming at Kalapake beach in the warm soft waves
Drinking a perfect mocha at the Ha cafe and reading an actual book!
Seeing tropical fish swimming in the water with us at Lydgate Beach Park, which is a small beach enclosed with rocks
Getting a private tour of Allerton Tropical Gardens with Paul and my sister. Note the huge tree roots that were featured in Jurassic park movies.
Going Salsa dancing to live music with our tour guide, Paul who is also a bass player
Sorry, got no pictures of that!
Going up to Waimea Canyons and seeing the waterfall with Gerry, whilst eating mango and lychee pie
And seeing breathtaking views of the ocean and/or mountains almost everywhere you go-even Costco!
I will hopefully return to this magical place soon. Not only to be with my sister, but perhaps to live. I don’t know when, but this place has definitely got it’s hooks in me. How can it not?
