Sneak Peak at My Online Students’ Work

Please click on the title to read the full post.

Hi Everyone! A big welcome to all the new readers!

How would you like a Sneak Peak at My Online Students’ Work?  I asked their permission and they said, yes!  They are hard at work creating their dream art quilt- you know, the one they have always wanted to make.

Take Linda.  She has this amazing picture that has deep personal meaning for her.  She is step by step creating her pattern and her quilt top.

The drama of the back lit hills and the colors make this an ideal subject.  Here’s her pattern:

And the beginnings of laying down the fabrics:

And here she is adding some shading to the hills.  I just think it’s going to be great!

Pat’s piece is going to be more abstract, based on the patterns made by wood grain:

Previewing some of her fabrics:

Adding the rings in a complimentary color scheme:

All ready to fuse!

It’s so exciting to see what everyone is coming up with, and making art quilts that have meaning for them.   This is why I love to teach, and teaching online makes it possible for people to study with me that ordinarily can’t.  Next week, I’ll be sharing the work of Janet, from the UK. and Susan from right here in NC.  Stay tuned, and let me know if you would like to join the class the next time I offer it!   Since this was just a tease, you can find out more in this class description right here.  This class is closed for now, but I will let you know when I will be offering it again. Until then, be thinking about the dream art quilt YOU would like to make.

Posh, Pet Portraits

Don’t forget enroll into  my new Posh, Pet Portraits class  I am teaching at Bernina World of Sewing, Raleigh, NC, !   Some of you will remember a while back, I detailed the making of my posh pet, Huey, my kitten.  You can read about it here.

If you have ever thought about doing a portrait in fabric of your past or present pet, this is your opportunity.  This is a 2 day class, on two Saturdays (Feb. 13 & 27).  The  two weeks in between will give you time to work on your project.   The cool thing about this class is not only will you get a fab portrait of your pet, but you will also get tips on free motion quilting while you work on your project.  And the same techniques can be used to create other art quilts such as landscapes, seascapes, buildings, flowers, people, etc.  You can bring your own machine to class or use a class machine ( a nice BERNINA 350!)  Also, you get 10% off your class supplies at the store.  So if you are local, don’t wait to register, space is very limited.  Call 919-782-2945 to register.  Better yet, do it with a friend!

The Needle Felting Flower video IS ready.  So if you haven’t seen it and want to get your free pattern- just email me and I’ll send it your way.  See below.
