Welcome to the new readers!
Yes! The commission of the gate to the South Carolina cemetary is nearing completion. For those of you who like numbers, I have kept track of the hours I put in so far – about 28 from start to finish. Yesterday I put it up on the wall for damp blocking. This is a process where I pin the quilt at regular intervals and spray it down until it is damp.
Once it is dry, it is pretty flat and there are no more bubbles from quilting. Unfortunately, some of the dye from the fabric underneath decided to migrate to the layers on top. This is why it is a good idea to prewash all your fabric, especially if it’s not dyed by you. Not to worry, I can paint over some of those areas.
I made the silver lines easily with a gel pen by tracing my chalk lines I had put on the fabric earlier. The brand of the gel pen is Sakura, made in Japan, called Gelly Roll metallic silver, which I found at my local Jerry’s Artarama.
And some of the stitching on the different leaves:
And a subtle signature in invisible thread:
Huey, as always was my pal throughout the process. Here he is posing on top of a pile of quilts that I presented to the Be Creative Club at Bernina World of Sewing earlier this month. I think he wanted to come….
If you need help with your quilting project, just remember I am available for 1 hour sessions by video chat or in person. Just shoot me an email and we can set up a time: firstname.lastname@example.org.
