Surprising News

Hi Everyone! A big welcome to all the new readers!

This week I got to hear from some of the students in my new online class, Dancing with Design, which opened last week. I started the class asking them why they decided to take this class. What I heard surprised me and yet felt awfully familiar.

Too often we hear and listen to that voice in our heads that says, I’m not ready, I’m not good enough yet, who do I think I am anyway? And why should I put my art work out there for everyone to see when there are so many better artists out there already?

Right?  Am I getting close?

If you’ve never had those thoughts or feelings of inadequacy, congratulations- but, you must not be quite human.  Most of us hear that voice daily, hourly  or all the time!

And yet, we deeply want to express ourselves, make beauty, share it, and develop our personal artistic voice.  The problem is as long as we listen to it, we will never venture into unknown territory.  We will never know what our voice is, because we haven’t made enough work to find out. We’re too busy criticizing the work we have managed to make.

But here’s the good news…..

You can change your mind at any time.  You can choose to not listen.  You can choose to say hi to the voice of “I’m not good enough”, and keep on walking by- right into your studio. Some days you will like what you make, some days you won’t, but over time, you will start to find the work that makes your heart sing.  And that’s an awesome feeling.

So I’m curious.

What keeps you from going to your studio/sewing room to try something of your own?

And, if you could use some support to help you through this mind madness of ours, just say the word.  There are many ways to get that support these days, from me or someone else. Just hit reply  to this post or comment below if you want support.
